Another young patient has been successfully cured of a life-threatening diagnosis at Iashvili Children Central Hospital. A 5-year-old boy was unexpectedly diagnosed with a 6-centimeter tumor located near the liver hilum and aorta during a routine ambulatory check-up. Following a series of thorough examinations, doctors confirmed a liver cancer diagnosis and made an urgent decision to proceed with surgical treatment.
"During the evaluation, we discovered a large retroperitoneal mass, which had invaded the liver structures. Surgical intervention was crucial to remove the tumor completely. The operation was performed by Dr. Zviad Buliskeria, myself, and my Indian colleague Dr. Sanjay Kumar Goja, who periodically visits Georgia to assist with such cases. The surgery was conducted at M. Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital, and despite its technical complexity and associated risks, it was highly successful, with no complications," recalls transplant surgeon Dr. Kakhaber Kashibadze.
The tumor was completely removed, ensuring the young patient’s full recovery. The postoperative period progressed smoothly, and the boy has since returned to his normal daily life in excellent health.
This case stands as another remarkable achievement in pediatric oncology and surgical excellence, reaffirming Iashvili Children Central Hospital’s commitment to saving young lives.
