Spine Center

The Spine Center at Iashvili Children's Hospital is a robust ambulatory service that provides pediatric patients with comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic options for spinal pathologies.
The center utilizes the latest diagnostic methods, including computed tomography, radiological, and ultrasound examinations. Based on the patient's age, general health status, and indications, all types of congenital, acquired, and traumatic spinal conditions are managed. These include:

• Congenital and acquired spinal deformities
• Spinal traumatic injuries
• All types of scoliosis, including idiopathic, neurofibromatosis, post-traumatic, congenital, and others
• Intervertebral disc herniation
• Rib hump and cervical curvature
• Thoracic kyphosis
• Unstable spine
• Various forms of coccygeal deformities, and others

In childhood, the most common treatments for scoliosis and kyphosis involve traditional therapeutic methods, including corrective exercises, massages, the use of corsets and braces, appropriately planned rehabilitation, and manual therapy. Surgical intervention is required when the degree of deformity exceeds 40-45%.
The Spine Center is staffed by leading professionals in the country, bringing together experienced orthopedic surgeons, traumatologists, and vertebrologists. The center is led by Professor Irakli Varzukhishvili, MD, PhD.

Pulmonary Center

The Pulmonary Center specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of various pulmonary pathologies. The involvement of a multidisciplinary team ensures personalized ambulatory services for pediatric patients aged 0 to 18 who require specialized care for congenital, acquired, allergic, and rare pulmonary conditions, as well as tuberculosis and diseases of the thoracic cavity organs. The treatment process includes specialists from various fields (pediatricians, pediatric pulmonologists, phthisiatrists, allergists, pediatric surgeons, endoscopists, and radiologists).

The center successfully manages diseases associated with lung collapse, pleural complications, and acute respiratory failure, as well as acute respiratory infections (acute bronchitis, croup, bronchiolitis), chronic pulmonary diseases (cystic fibrosis, interstitial pneumonia, bronchial asthma), and pulmonary pathologies related to neuro-muscular complications. The center also provides differential diagnosis for suspected tuberculosis cases.

In terms of respiratory system diagnostics, a full spectrum of instrumental and laboratory tests is available, including high-tech and specific examinations, such as:

• Spirometry – assessment of external respiratory function
• Basic allergic testing
• Computed tomography (CT)
• Radiological examinations
• Echocardiographic study of the thoracic cavity
• Endoscopic diagnostics, including bronchoscopy
• Early diagnosis of wheezing using the Wheeze Scan apparatus
• Complete viral panel testing for respiratory system acute infections based on the Lugar Laboratory
Laboratory studies, including bacterial, biochemical, and immunological investigations

Diagnostic center

The Diagnostic Center at Iashvili Children's Hospital is the only facility in the country providing full-scare pediatric radiology services, including specialized examinations. The center offers complete diagnostic services for pediatric patients from newborns to 18 years old, as well as prenatal studies. The center conducts a full range of contrast studies for pediatric patients, including full coverage of organ examinations. Available procedures include cystography, intravenous urography, urethrography, and fistulography, alongside a complete spectrum of pediatric uronephrological and gastroenterological diagnostics. Also, contrast studies and radiography of the musculoskeletal system, spine and cervical vertebrae are performed with success. These methods are essential for detecting fractures, infections, bone pathologies, and for evaluating pulmonary and dental conditions.

As for computed tomography (CT), it provides the opportunity to obtain layered 3D visualization of organs and tissues. This method allows for the detection of conditions such as internal bleeding, brain or bone marrow injuries, various types of tumors, internal fractures, and many other pathologies.

At the center, ultrasound equipment offers high-resolution imaging that provides incredibly clear and detailed views. This method of examination is both painless and safe, as it doesn’t use radiation, making it an ideal first choice for pediatric care across all age groups. Our ultrasound services cover a wide range of diagnostic needs, including:
• Abdominal cavity and urinary system
• Small pelvic organs
• Thyroid and mammary glands, scrotum
• Lymph nodes and salivary glands

Age-appropriate routine immunizations target diseases such as pertussis, measles, rubella, mumps, hepatitis B, diphtheria, tuberculosis, rotavirus, pneumococcus, tetanus, poliomyelitis, and others. According to the immunization schedule in Georgia, the first vaccination is administered to newborns at birth (tuberculosis and hepatitis B vaccines), which helps increase resistance to infectious diseases.
Non-routine immunizations include mono and multi component vaccines, targeting meningitis, hepatitis A, varicella, and human papillomavirus. The center also provides COVID-19 and seasonal flu vaccinations.
