A 4-year-old girl was admitted to M. Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital with symptoms of drowsiness and increased intracranial pressure. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a large growing tumor in the brain stem. Tumors with such localization are considered among the most complex pathologies in neurosurgery, as the tumor is directly connected to vital function centers. During the complex neurosurgical operation, it was discovered that the tumor had spread and adhered to the brain stem intraoperatively. Despite the high risk of complications, neurosurgeon Vladimir Tsikarishvili and his team successfully removed the tumor from the vital centers of the brain stem. The post-operative period also passed without complications. The young patient has now been discharged home and is preparing for adjuvant therapy (radiation therapy, chemotherapy).
