What seemed like an ordinary day for 8-year-old Nini turned tragic when she ran out of her house upon hearing her peers’ playful voices and made a childish, yet almost fatal mistake – she was hit by a car while running in the street, which began a difficult and lengthy treatment period. Her mother recalls that the girl was in shock and initially couldn’t feel the pain. She kept asking only one question – if she was alive… Upon admission to M. Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital, the young patient was immediately prepared for surgery. The girl had large lacerated wounds in the left shin area, damage to the posterior tibial tendons and muscles, and multiple fractures in the left thigh and shin regions. Severe bleeding from the limb was also notable. The complex surgery was successful. Under the leadership of Bidzina Kanashvili, the team of orthopedic traumatologists performed fracture fixation using minimal incisions and titanium elastic rods.
Due to the severity of the injuries, the rehabilitation process was also difficult and lengthy, but as Bidzina Kanashvili recalls, the patient’s family helped ensure proper rehabilitation through daily efforts. 8-year-old Nini’s limb structures were fully restored, and she returned to a full life.
