A one-year-old child with severe skull deformation was admitted to M. Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital. Tests revealed early-stage ossification of the cranial vault. The patient was diagnosed with congenital cranial vault malformation, a complex form of craniosynostosis. This is a congenital condition where the joints between the skull bones close prematurely, before the brain’s complete development. In this case, the deformed skull was causing a reduction in intracranial volume and consequently putting pressure on the brain. This pathology often leads to delays in psychomotor development. There is also a high risk of secondary brain damage. Neurosurgeon Vladimir Tsikarishvili made the decision to perform reconstructive cranioplasty. Despite the high risk of complications, the complex neurosurgical operation was successful. The patient was discharged home in satisfactory condition. Follow-up examination results are also positive.
