Department of Neuroscience

The Department of Neuroscience at Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital is the only one in the country, where comprehensive examination and treatment-management of all types of neurological and neurosurgical pathologies is carried out for pediatric patients aged 0-to 18 yearsold.

The department is equipped with complete diagnostic tools, includingelectrophysiological, electroencephalographic and electromyographic equipment. Computer tomography is also available at the clinic .

Complex surgeries are performed for developmental defects of the brain and spinal cord, tumors, vascular malformations and traumatic injuries. Surgical treatment of neurological diseases of the spine, head, spinal cord and peripheral nervous system oncological pathologies is successfully conducted.

A wide range of neurosurgical operations are performed with endoscopic and neurophysiological monitoring. These include shunt-related surgical interventions (shunt revision/reconstruction, cystoperitoneal shunting and others), repositioning and reconstruction during skull trauma, cranioplasty, operations on the spinal cord and nerve roots, intracranial lesion extirpation, encephalocele, myelocele and meningocele removal and more.

It’s noteworthy, that the surgical treatment method for craniosynostosis was first implemented in Georgia at the Department of Neuroscience of Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital.
