Another defeated case of leukemia at M. Iashvili Children’s Central Hospital – doctors have cured 3-year-old Mariam of oncological disease. The little patient was transferred to the clinic with severe symptoms: difficulty walking, fever, and bruising. Tests revealed several tumor cells in peripheral blood. To assess the condition and receive treatment, Mariam’s parents took her to Turkey, however, the period there proved psychologically difficult for both mother and child. At the family’s request, the little patient returned under the care of Iashvili’s medical team. “Our team mobilized maximum resources. After examining the bone marrow, our suspicion of blood cancer was confirmed, and acute lymphoblastic leukemia was diagnosed. We decided to proceed with a 6-month course of polychemotherapy, which was the only chance to save the little girl,” recalls Asmat Shengelaia, Head of the Hospital’s Onco-Hematology Department.
During the treatment process, psychologist Tamar Lomtatidze tried to ease the most difficult days for the patient and her mother. According to her, despite the unbearable pain and young age, the 3-year-old girl carefully listened to the doctors during treatment and fought for her life. The process of fighting leukemia proved quite challenging and full of obstacles, but the girl was completely cured. Today, Mariam is one of the 1,000 fortunate children who have defeated the disease with the help of Iashvili’s doctors.
